Firefly The Firefly, the new hit Whedon series, came out of one-off episodes. The character of Summer Glau's River Tam was a complicated role that Glau did well. As Tam her character, she was enticed into government-sponsored experiments in which she was being trained to be the ultimate assassin. Tam did not have control over her emotions, which led to. Glau showed off her fighting ability as well as her acting talents in Firefly. Glau was able to utilize her athletic capabilities due to her training to be an assassin. Summer Glau is a classically educated ballerina. She also has the study of flamenco and tango however it was her broken toe which ended her dance career. Firefly did not last for more than one season, but the show gained an avid follower base. Fans of Whedon's were so enthusiastic, Whedon returned to it after two years.
