Despacito was first released by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi in 2017, and quickly became the most streamed song within six months. The song is a blend of reggaeton, pop and rock has not just brought attention to reggaeton but it also drew interest towards Latin music more generally. In 2015 there were only two mostly Spanish-language songs on Billboard's Top 100 and in 2016 there were four. In 2017, at the height of popularity for Despacito 19, 19 songs mostly in Spanish have made it into the Billboard Top 100. In 2020, there will be 41 tracks in this category. Following the time that Justin Bieber released his bilingual remix of Despacito in 2017, famous artists started to work with reggaeton musicians. Drake and Bad Bunny were part of a team for the track MIA MIA (2018), while Madonna teamed up with Maluma on Medellin 2019, which was released in 2019. By 2020 a few reggaeton performers were lamenting the genre's direction toward the mainstream. However, a younger generation, led by Rauw Alejandro, aimed to continue the evolution of reggaeton. He often incorporated elements from electronic dance music as well as other forms.
